Delhi Commons

The Commonwealth Games 2010 took place in New Delhi from 3 to 14 October 2010, bringing rapid social transformation to the city. The preparations involved redevelopment of the Yamuna river floodplain, demolition of neighborhoods, and a surge in migration. However, the event faced numerous structural failures, highlighting the disconnect between the envisioned and lived experiences.

In response to this, Delhi Commons, a public art project, sought to capture memories of the Commonwealth Games and the city's changes through photographs, postcards, and souvenirs. The project aimed to engage people in discussions surrounding urban transformations and become a part of the discourse on these changes.

Delhi Commons stands as an online initiative, an artistic response to the immense infrastructural and social shifts triggered by the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The project supported by Arts Network Asia [ANA] consists of postcard memes, photographs and souvenir badges, solicited through an open call.

The Project was realised at the Sarai Media Lab, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Delhi.
